The Prep Mock Trial
team won the 2004 - 2005 District Title at the William J. Nealon
Federal Courthouse in Scranton. Team members who acted as lawyers
and witnesses were:
seniors, Molly O'Brien, Layla Tabatabaie and John Rizzo;
juniors, Elizabeth Burke, Kathryn Burke, Ryan Lynady and Mark
Kania;
and sophomore, Jason Mannion.
Prep will advance to the regional competition
against Marian Catholic High School, Tamaqua.
Prep's Mock Trial Team placed second in the state
championships out of 270 participating teams. The group of eight
students argued a mock case about a fan killed at a rock concert.
The victim's family sued the star, claiming she incited a riot.
In Mock Trial competition, each time a team advances, it switches
from plaintiff to defense. The competition, held in the State
Senate Chambers, is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
The students who argued the case were: Elizabeth Burke, Katie
Burke, Mark Kania, Ryan Lynady, Jason Mannion, Molly O'Brien,
John Rizzo, and Layla Tabatabaie. Judge Malachy Mannion and Attorney
John O'Brien are team advisors.
